When the final whistle blew at the World Team Trials in Quebec, months of grueling, high-intensity training came to a head. For Jude, securing a national championship title and qualifying for Team Canada was a life-changing moment. Yet, as the initial rush settled, one thought immediately stood out above everything else: this was not a finish line, but the start of an extraordinary international athletic career.
Earning a spot on the national team means stepping into elite territory. Jude recently represented Canada on the world stage, ranking 16th at the U17 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. Following that, he captured a silver medal at the 6th International Wrestling Championship in Hong Kong, an impressive feat achieved despite wrestling in a higher weight division.
At LiveWell Health and Physiotherapy, we have had the privilege of supporting Jude through his training and recovery. His journey offers an inspiring look at what it truly takes to compete at an elite level: unwavering consistency, sharp mental focus, a strong support system, and a proactive approach to injury prevention and athletic therapy.

The Moment It Became Official: Reactions from the National Qualifier
Reaching the top tier of competitive wrestling takes years of sacrifice, but the moment of victory happens in seconds. Winning the Team Canada qualifier in Quebec delivered an unmistakable rush of emotion.
“When I won the world team trials (Team Canada qualifier) I was filled with energy and adrenaline, then it kicked in; I knew that this was only the beginning of my wrestling career and that I was just getting started with what I am going to accomplish in my career.”
While his family and coaches were right beside him in Quebec to celebrate, Jude immediately reached out to the people back home who helped build his foundation. Only minutes after stepping off the national championship mat, he made a phone call to his home gym.
“After winning my finals in the world team trials, apart from my family and coaches who were with me in Quebec, the first people I had shared the news with were my teammates and coaches back at home who were at practice watching my match live. I called them a couple minutes after winning the national championships.”
For Jude and his family, this achievement validated every early morning, long drive, and rigorous workout. Right away, they resolved not to take the opportunity for granted, committing to represent Canada at every international event offered.
Inside an Elite Athlete Routine: Sacrifices, Weekly Schedules, and Cross-Training
Success at the national level is built far away from the spotlight. Jude maintains an incredibly demanding weekly routine designed to build strength, technical speed, and combat endurance.
Weekly Training Breakdown
| Training Component | Frequency & Volume | Strategic Focus |
| On-the-Mat Combat Training | 3 hours a day, 5 days a week | Primary wrestling focus, integrated with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Muay Thai |
| Strength & Conditioning | 1.5 hours a session, 3 to 4 times a week | Heavy lifting, power development, and injury resilience |
| Chiropractic Care & Recovery | Monthly at LiveWell plus daily routines | Joint mobility, alignment, stretching, sauna, and restorative sleep |
Beyond wrestling, cross-training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Muay Thai gives Jude a unique competitive edge. It sharpens his leverage, body control, and spatial awareness on the mat.
The Realities of Sacrifice and Balance
Managing high school, work, personal relationships, and elite athletics is a major challenge. Maintaining this lifestyle requires stepping away from typical teenage pastimes like video games, social media, and social outings.
“There have been many sacrifices made to get to this point, lots of time spent training. I’ve lost most of my time with friends and family, I have to stay and maintain clean with my diet and my lifestyle, I do not go out often and I am always looking to better myself.”
As Jude notes, balancing these demands becomes more natural with maturity:
“Training and staying consistent is definitely what helped shape my path to Team Canada. Consistently working hard everyday even when I was tired or not feeling it is what shaped me to become the athlete I am.”
Mindset and Recovery: Visualization and Overcoming Back Injuries
Physical talent alone does not win national titles. Mental preparation and structured physical recovery are equally critical.
The Power of Visualization in High-Performance Sports
To perform under high pressure, Jude relies heavily on mental rehearsal. Visualization is a key habit that helps him stay calm, focused, and ready for competition.
“A habit that has made a big difference in my performance is visualization. I’d say visualization is a great habit to get into that is overlooked by many people. When you are focused and visualizing how a certain match or competition will go and how you will succeed, it really helps you feel more relaxed and confident to achieve your goal. I am personally a big visualizer and I imagine myself wrestling all the time such as before I go to sleep, before a competition, after practice or any other time in the day.”
Overcoming Injury and Returning to the Mat
Combat sports place extreme stress on the spine and joints. Following the 2025 Nationals, Jude suffered a strained lower back after pushing through early pain signals instead of resting. The injury forced a full two-month recovery period away from training.
Returning to the mat required patience, progressive loading, and proper clinical support to rebuild physical stamina and confidence:
“The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome was coming back from a back injury and adapting back to the physical and grueling lifestyle of wrestling and combat sports. Around a year ago, I strained my lower back and I was out for around 2 months. Coming back to the sport was very difficult as I felt out of shape and tired every practice back, but as time went on, I had regained my physicality and skill and gotten even better.”

How Chiropractic Care Supports Jude’s Athletic Performance at LiveWell
At LiveWell Health and Physiotherapy, our goal for athletes like Jude is simple: keep the body mobile, resilient, and competition-ready.
Why Proactive Chiropractic Care Matters for Combat Athletes
High-volume wrestling creates repetitive physical demands. Without proper joint alignment and tissue care, minor tightness can turn into major injuries.
Jude integrates monthly appointments with Dr. Michael White into his overall training plan to keep his mobility in check and catch potential issues before they cause setbacks:
“Chiropractic care has been part of my recovery plan as I go once a month to keep my body in check making sure my mobility is good and to prevent injury.”
“Every month, I go to LiveWell for a chiropractic appointment to allow my body to stay loose and safe from injury keeping my mobility in check.”
Key Benefits Observed in Training
Integrating regular adjustments and clinical feedback directly impacts performance on and off the mat:
- Greater Mobility and Flexibility: Keeps joint mechanics fluid, allowing for deeper stretches and smoother execution of wrestling shots and defences.
- Pain-Free Strength Training: Keeps the spine and pelvis balanced so heavy lifting sessions can be completed safely.
- Enhanced Recovery and Reduced Stiffness: Helps the body handle intense training sessions and recover faster between workouts.
- Direct Clinical Feedback: Gives clear direction on specific areas needing mobility work or targeted strength focus.
“Since going to the chiropractor has been implemented into my routine, I have noticed lots of benefits such as improved mobility, minimized risk of injury, and feeling loose and relaxed on and off the mat. The chiropractor has allowed me to get deeper into my stretches, and complete strength training pain free.”
Jude specifically credits the tailored advice from his sessions for keeping him at the top of his game:
“Dr. Michael White has given me lots of feedback and areas of improvement for my body after sessions and tells me what I need to work on in flexibility and in strength training. This helps me a lot as I implement it into my training routine helping me feel stronger and more flexible.”
Advice for Young Athletes: Listen to Your Body First
When asked what advice he would share with young athletes working toward their own high-level goals, Jude emphasizes the importance of injury prevention and listening to body signals:
“Advice I would give to other young athletes about taking care of their body is to listen to the body. Listening to your body is very important as it helps you prevent and minimize huge injury risks. If you ever feel that something is hurting or your body feels funny and not good, you should not push through it. Pushing through an injury is not a good idea and is something I would not recommend.”
“A time when chiropractic treatment has helped me get back to my training is when I injured my lower back after 2025 nationals. I hurt my lower back as I had not listened to my body and ignored the pain in my back pushing through it which had me off the mat for a month. Going to Dr. Michael White at that time allowed me to recover quicker and more efficiently.”
Representing Canada on the Global Stage
Representing your country on the international stage is an incredible privilege. For Jude, wearing the national singlet in Azerbaijan and Hong Kong was about honouring the community, coaches, healthcare providers, and family who helped him get there.
“What I am most excited about representing our nation is having the privilege to wear my last name on the back of the team Canada singlet and make my family and nation proud.”
“All my coaches, teammates, family, and healthcare providers are all a massive part of my success. All these people around me are always assisting me, allowing me to become the best version of myself on and off the mat.”
“A message I would give to young athletes who dream of wearing the maple leaf is to continue to dream big. I would tell them that if you have a dream so big in your heart, it is because someone out there believes you can do it, so stay determined, work hard, and don’t give up.”
A Message of Thanks
“I want to thank everyone throughout my journey who has helped me to get where I am, and I want to say that I dream of doing lots of big things in life and that I will stay determined and always try my best. Without everyone who has helped me in my journey I could not have done it. I am forever grateful for everyone who believes in me and I will not let you guys down.”
